✓ Pros
Long track record of reliable performance. Good edge retention. Can achieve high hardness. Well understood by knife makers. Moderate price.
✗ Cons
Toughness is only moderate. Requires careful heat treatment. Being superseded by newer powder steels. Grinds slowly.
Grinding Notes
Grinds slowly due to molybdenum content. Ceramic belts recommended. Avoid overheating - can be temperamental. Pre-heat treat grinding is easier.
Polishing Notes
Takes good polish but requires patience. High molybdenum can cause streaking if not careful. Satin finishes work well.
