Description
Stacked leather handles are made from multiple layers of leather washers compressed together on the tang. This creates a traditional comfortable grip with warm feel and excellent shock absorption. The layered edge creates distinctive striped appearance. **Fordele:** Excellent grip and comfort, shock absorbing, traditional appearance, warm to touch, easy to replace, affordable **Ulemper:** Poor water resistance, absorbs oils and odors, requires maintenance, can compress over time, not very durable
Properties
✓ Pros
• Excellent workability with both hand and power tools • Economical and readily available
✗ Cons
• Susceptible to moisture damage, requires proper sealing
Working Notes
Cutting: Shape on belt sander or lathe after assembly. Leather dust is irritating. Work in ventilated area. Sanding: Stack washers then shape. Sand progressively 80-220 grit. Layered edge creates natural pattern.
Finishing Notes
Seal with multiple coats of boiled linseed oil, spar varnish, or leather sealant. Buff between coats.
⚠️ Special Considerations
Will darken and patina with use. Requires regular oiling. Not suitable for wet environments. Compresses slightly over time.
