Description
Jigged bone features machined groove patterns cut into the surface for enhanced grip and visual appeal. It's typically dyed in various colors and stabilized for improved performance. The jigging creates a traditional textured appearance popular on folding knives. **Fordele:** Enhanced grip from jigging, available in many colors, stabilized versions more durable, classic traditional look, affordable **Ulemper:** Still porous if not stabilized, dye may rub off initially, requires sealing, can appear cheap if poorly done
Properties
✓ Pros
• Good workability
✗ Cons
• Requires proper care and maintenance
Working Notes
Cutting: Pre-jigged material is easy to shape. Sharp tools prevent chipping the ridges. Control dust as bone powder is irritating. Sanding: Sand lightly to reveal true color beneath surface dye. Progress 220-600 grit. Be careful not to sand away jigging detail.
Finishing Notes
Wipe with alcohol to remove excess dye. Seal with thin CA glue. Buff to desired sheen. Apply protective wax.
⚠️ Special Considerations
Darker colors appear black until sanded. True color emerges during finishing. Stabilized versions are superior to unstabilized.
